Summary
This article explains how much mobile or cellular data typically uses up when you take a WheezeRate recording with wheezo® and the respiri app.
Instructions
Each wheezo® WheezeRate recording is made up of two separate audio files: one for breath sounds and one for ambient (background) noise. Each file typically ranges from 650 kB to 1.2 MB in size, depending on the duration of the recording. The combined size of both files is double the individual file sizes mentioned, so for a recording where the average file size for both files is 1.2 MB, the total file size would be 2.4 MB.
If you prefer not to use your cellular (mobile) data while recording wheezeRates, follow these steps:
- Turn off Cellular (Mobile) Data: Before starting the wheeze recording, disable your cellular data on your mobile device.
- Close the App: After turning off cellular data, close the respiri app.
- Connect to Wi-Fi: To ensure that your recordings are transmitted securely, connect your device to a Wi-Fi network.
If you don't have access to Wi-Fi:
- Offline Recordings: You can still take up to 20 wheezeRate recordings while offline. When the app needs to save a new wheeze rate and has already stored 20 results, there's a notification stating that the app reaches the offline storage limit.
- Delayed Transmission: Any recordings taken offline will not be shared with your medical team immediately. They will be transmitted only when you connect your mobile device to cellular (mobile) data or Wi-Fi.
This way, you can manage your wheeze recordings without using your cellular data and ensure that your medical team receives the necessary information when your device is connected to a network.

wheezo® is not intended for diagnostic use. wheezo® is intended to detect and record abnormal breath sounds (continuous adventitious breath sounds/CABS) at the windpipe (trachea), reported as WheezeRate in adults and children (2 years and older).
When used to monitor wheeze, the user should be under the care of a licensed healthcare professional. A licensed healthcare professional’s advice is required to understand the meaning and importance of wheeze rate.
If the user is feeling breathless, or experiencing other symptoms, it is important to prioritise treatment over taking a wheeze rate. Do not delay treatment. Regardless of the wheeze rate, if the user has signs and symptoms such as, but not limited to, chest tightness, shortness of breath, coughing or wheezing, they should always follow their healthcare professional’s advice.
