Summary
This article explains what can influence WheezeRate.
wheezo® has been designed for use indoors, ideally where there is no background noise, including people speaking or media such as television or radio.
Although wheezo® has a background microphone for noise cancellation, it should be used in a quiet environment, because ambient noise may impact the recording and be reflected in the WheezeRate.
Tips or Suggestions
- For example, wheezo® is not designed to be used in direct air currents e.g., outdoors in the wind, or when ducted heating or fans are operational and audible.
- It is suggested that you either turn off the source of ambient noise or move to a quieter space to complete your breath sound recording.
- If you have a blocked or partially blocked nose, it is recommended to open your mouth while recording.
Completing your daily tasks, including taking your recording using wheezo® should take you less than 2 minutes.

wheezo® is not intended for diagnostic use. wheezo® is intended to detect and record abnormal breath sounds (continuous adventitious breath sounds/CABS) at the windpipe (trachea), reported as WheezeRate in adults and children (2 years and older).
When used to monitor wheeze, the user should be under the care of a licensed healthcare professional. A licensed healthcare professional’s advice is required to understand the meaning and importance of wheeze rate.
If the user is feeling breathless, or experiencing other symptoms, it is important to prioritise treatment over taking a wheeze rate. Do not delay treatment. Regardless of the wheeze rate, if the user has signs and symptoms such as, but not limited to, chest tightness, shortness of breath, coughing or wheezing, they should always follow their healthcare professional’s advice.
