Summary
This article explains how to connect or pair your wheezo® on your Android device.
Instructions
If you are connecting your wheezo® device to your Android device for the first time, you WILL need to pair your wheezo® via Bluetooth (same with an iOS device). After you pair a Bluetooth device successfully, this Android device should pair automatically to your wheezo® the next time you use it.
NOTE: Make sure that the wheezo® is within Bluetooth proximity of your smart device. The connection will be lost if your smart device is too far away from the wheezo.
-
Determine if a hard reset of the wheezo device is required. For further assistance in identifying whether a hard reset is needed to be performed on your wheezo, refer to How do I complete the hard reset of the wheezo device?
-
Prior to starting the recording, both Bluetooth and location should be turned ON to assist in connecting to wheezo.
NOTE: If your Android device already has Bluetooth and the Location settings turned ON, you will see the screens displayed from step #9, so you can scroll to step #9 and begin from there. If not, please go ahead and proceed with the steps below.
Tap Turn on Bluetooth and then tap Allow to give permission to the respiri app to find, connect to and determine the relative position of nearby devices.
- Tap Allow to turn ON the Bluetooth of the mobile device.
- Tap Turn on Location to enable Location settings.
-
Next you will be shown the important reminder screen informing you to tap “Back” from your phone’s navigation to return to the respiri app after location settings have been turned ON. Tap Go to Settings. Turning ON the location will ensure that the wheezo device will be paired to the phone.
NOTE: It is also important to note that every Android device has different navigation screens, which means that the Android screens might vary slightly on your end.
- From the Location screen, (1) toggle the switch from Off to On. Then (2) tap the arrow button from the upper left of the screen to go back to the respiri app.
OR you can go back to the respiri app by tapping the Back button on the phone's navigation bar, or return to the home screen and select the respiri app.
- From within the respiri app, it is now time to pair to the wheezo device. Make sure that the wheezo is turned ON, then tap Next and it will start to search for the wheezo device.
- Tap wheezo once found and then tap Pair.
- Once successfully paired, the screen will show 'We're paired' which also means that you can now take a wheeze rate recording using the wheezo and the respiri app. The screens below will only show during the first-time pairing. To start recording a wheeze rate, tap I'm ready, then Next and lastly, Start recording. Refer to How do I take a recording using the wheezo device and the respiri app? for instructions.
NOTE: If the application is newly installed, the screen below will appear before taking the wheeze recording.
From this screen, it is recommended to tap "While using the app" to allow the respiri app to consistently access environmental data using your device's location. If you tap "Only this time", you will need to go back to your phone's Settings to re-enable the respiri app's access to your device's location for it to function correctly.
For all subsequent recordings, follow the steps below when taking a wheeze rate recording using the daily tasks from the respiri app, (accessed via the home screen)
NOTE: Make sure that the Bluetooth is ON (the device has already been paired with wheezo) and the Location setting is ON.
From the home screen of the respiri app, the first daily tasks shows where you can record the wheeze rate. Tap Start recording. To confirm if wheezo is already paired, the screen shows ‘Connected’.
If you encounter the screens as shown below when Bluetooth and Location settings are ON while using the daily cards and trying to take a wheeze rate recording, go back and follow from step #1 outlined in this article. This indicates that your wheezo device may not have been successfully paired.
If your mobile device has previously paired but the Bluetooth and the Location settings are OFF, you can reconnect from the home screen daily task and tap Start recording and then follow steps outlined above from step #2 to step #6.
And then once back to the respiri app, it will then search and complete the pairing until the screen shows 'Connected'.

wheezo® is not intended for diagnostic use. wheezo® is intended to detect and record abnormal breath sounds (continuous adventitious breath sounds/CABS) at the windpipe (trachea), reported as WheezeRate in adults and children (2 years and older).
When used to monitor wheeze, the user should be under the care of a licensed healthcare professional. A licensed healthcare professional’s advice is required to understand the meaning and importance of wheeze rate.
If the user is feeling breathless, or experiencing other symptoms, it is important to prioritise treatment over taking a wheeze rate. Do not delay treatment. Regardless of the wheeze rate, if the user has signs and symptoms such as, but not limited to, chest tightness, shortness of breath, coughing or wheezing, they should always follow their healthcare professional’s advice.
